Plank floors

Oldest wooden floor ever

The plank floor is one of the oldest wooden floors in existence. The long boards/planks were cut directly from a tree trunk and nailed onto beams.

Large-scale appearance • also possible with underfloor heating

This type of wooden floor is enjoying great popularity again today due to its generous, large-scale appearance. In order to reduce the amount of work required for central or underfloor heating, these wooden floors are now often manufactured in a sealed, multi-layered construction. Full-surface installation with glue is recommended, particularly for underfloor heating. Two-layer floorboards with a relatively low thermal resistance and a total thickness of 10 mm and a wear layer of around 3.5 mm are recommended, particularly for underfloor heating.

Sealing, oiling, waxing

There are also the usual surface treatments for plank floors. For example, multiple coatings with a water-based, easy-care acrylic varnish or an open-pore treatment with oil or wax are possible. (See “Parquet underfloor heating”)

Various types of wood

The woods that can be used here are local species (e.g. oak, beech, maple) and exotic species. Local species of wood that have been stained with light pigments are currently in fashion.

Floorboard renovation

Old solid floorboards, even today, are subject to a lot of movement (joints, deformations) and in old buildings they are brought back into shape daily by Parkett Nürnberger through sanding and new surface treatments and given a new surface appearance by oiling or sealing.
